  • Photography of paintings and other two dimensional art so that every detail and texture is accurately recorded even when large prints are made
  • Photography of glossy paintings and those under glass - the studio has several methods to eliminate or control reflections so your work looks just the way you want it to.
  • Creation of large, color-accurate digital files and proof prints that closely match the original. Steve Gyurina has developed many different solutions for dealing with paint pigments that don't always record as expected and need to be digitally corrected.

  • Archival finishing using roll-on and spray finishes

Artopia Art Imaging is a photography and Giclee printing studio owned by Steve Gyurina - a professional photographer with more than two decades of experience photographing fine art and commercial subjects.

The studio is located just a couple of miles north of Boston, Massachusetts in the small city of Melrose, inside Rte 128. The studio is also a ten minute walk from the Oak Grove MBTA train station. If you live in another part of the country, you can send your work and we'll e-mail digital proofs for your evaluation. This makes it possible for you to be part of the creative process no matter where you happen to live.

Artopia Art Imaging occupies 1600 sq. ft. of space on the second floor of a red brick, 19th century factory complex. The main shooting studio is large and has a twenty foot ceiling - which makes it possible for us to handle subjects of practically any size or kind. The other room is dedicated to Giclee art reproduction and photography of jewelry, and other smaller subjects. There is a freight elevator and loading dock for transporting heavy objects up to the studio; and plenty of free parking. There are also several wonderful restaurants just a few minutes from the studio.

Artopia has fully converted to high-resolution digital photography but we still shoot slides for art school, show and grant applications. We will continue to do so until digital jury systems like Zapp and e-Jury are more universally adopted, or until slide film or processing is no longer available.

A Few Technical Details The studio has a Mac Pro Intel 2.6 quad-processor computer with 3 gigs of ram, dual color calibrated monitors and a 44" Epson 9600 digital printer. We're using the new Photoshop CS3 beta program which is extremely fast. All digital work is shot with a 13.4 meg, full-frame, CMOS chip camera which creates enormous image files with stunning detail and clarity. When shooting jewelry and other small subjects, we use a special lens that tilts and shifts like a view camera so that every part of the image is sharp and clear - even when greatly enlarged.

When shooting, our cameras are always set to record the largest file size possible, and all finals files are archived to DVD and hard drives. This makes it possible for a client to order, for instance, large prints for a trade show booth; or excellent 35-mm slides from the files (with retouching if desired), at any time in the future.
